DETERMINANTS OF SUCCESSFUL FAMILY PLANNING PROJECTS IN PROVINCE OF SINDH, PAKISTAN

Abstract

Family planning has been given due importance by developed as well
as developing countries to reduce the rate of population growth. The projects in
family planning play a vital role in controlling population. Purpose behind this
study was to examine the relationship of various determinants of family
planning, including easy access of contraceptives, acceptability of contraceptives
by the community, quality of contraceptive, and cost of the contraceptives, with
success of family planning projects, in Sindh, Pakistan. In this study, deductive
approach was adopted, as hypotheses were developed after review of relevant
literature followed by use of a questionnaire. The data were collected from the
rural areas of Sindh. A total of 480 questionnaires were distributed to the
respondents in simple random way, out of which 400 were returned, that were
further used for analysis. Data were analyzed by applying statistical tools
including chi square, correlation, cross tabulation and regression analysis, with
the help of SPSS version 22.Analysis/ result of study indicatesthat all the
determinants of family planning investigated for the research have a positive
and significant relationship with success of family planning projects. The study
is considered quite useful for Govt. of Pakistan and other agencies like NGOs for
understanding the impact of various determinants on the success of family
planning projects. Finally, some useful measures have been proposed for further
improving the success rate of various ongoing projects on family planning.
