Abstract

Traditionally in medical and health sciences, human body weight ismeasured through three well-known predictors measures namely “Waist-to-HipRatio (WHR)”, “Body Mass Index (BMI)” and “Body Fat Percentage (BF%)”. It hasbeen observedthat the “BMI” is the most commonly screening predictor between“WHR” and “BF%”. This study aims at identifying the best screening predictor ofmale and female weight measures among prescribed three screening tools andto look into any organized relationships among BMI, BF% and WHR as screeningparameters to lessen the occurrence of obesity among the in-effluent population. This study was conducted in the Department of Medicine, Jinnah PostgraduateMedical Centre (JPMC), Karachi, Pakistan from March 2017 to September 2017.It was observed during this study period that on average 800-1,000 patientswere visiting per day at different OPDs of JMPC. The sample for this studycomprises of 414 respondents and limited to the records of JPMC, Karachi(Pakistan). To make sure that the study covers the six districts of Karachiproportionately, the “Stratified Probability Random Sampling Procedure” hasbeen used with “population allocation”. We have come to the conclusion thatBF% proves to be effective in calculating body weight in females, while “BMI”and “WHR” are more effective in calculating body weight in males.
